G-DRIVE Becomes Single Brand For WD Creator Storage Products

Western Digital

Western Digital (WD) has announced the relaunch of its G-DRIVE® brand as the single, unified name for all its external storage products made for content creators and creative professionals. This move brings together WD’s high-capacity and high-performance storage solutions under one trusted brand—G-DRIVE®, which is widely known for its quality, speed, and reliability.

As part of this change, the G-DRIVE® name and its recognizable “G” logo will replace the SanDisk Professional branding across WD’s creator-focused storage range. This includes desktop drives, portable drives, and multi-bay RAID systems designed for demanding creative work such as high-resolution photography, video production, graphic design, and audio engineering.

G-DRIVE® products are built to support the entire creative process—from on-location data capture and real-time editing to backup and post-production—serving individuals, businesses, and professional studios alike. All products currently sold under the SanDisk Professional name will shift to the G-DRIVE® brand by the end of this month.

According to Darrin Bulik, Director of Product Management at WD, G-DRIVE has become strongly associated with dependable, high-performance storage for creators at every level. By bringing its creator storage portfolio under this established brand, WD aims to preserve that reputation while using its advanced storage technology to give creators more choices and reliable tools to turn ideas into reality.

The initial G-DRIVE® lineup includes:

  • G-DRIVE ArmorATD – A rugged portable drive (up to 6TB) with triple-layer shock protection, IP54 dust and water resistance, and a tough aluminum enclosure for mobile professionals.

  • G-DRIVE – A desktop drive using enterprise-class Ultrastar® HDDs, offering up to 26TB of storage with fast and stable performance for editing, backups, and archiving.

  • G-DRIVE PROJECT – A single-bay Thunderbolt® 3 desktop drive with up to 26TB capacity, designed for heavy workloads.

  • G-RAID PROJECT 2 – A compact two-bay Thunderbolt® 3 RAID system (configured in RAID 0) with up to 52TB of storage for faster post-production tasks.

  • G-RAID SHUTTLE 4 and SHUTTLE 8 – Portable 4-bay and 8-bay storage systems with hot-swappable Ultrastar® drives, offering up to 208TB capacity, shipped in RAID 5 and built for on-set and multi-camera production environments.

WD confirmed that all existing SanDisk Professional HDD products will continue to receive full warranty and support. New products carrying the G-DRIVE® branding are already being shipped.

This rebranding follows WD’s transition into a standalone HDD company in late February 2025. The company will also continue selling HDD products under its other well-known ranges, including WD Gold® for enterprise use, WD Purple® for smart video systems, WD Red® for NAS, WD Blue® for everyday PC use, and WD_BLACK® for gaming.
